The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is the Province of BC’s primary emergency response organization. It
operates year-round to deliver its mandate for wildfire management and response to natural
hazard emergencies. The BCWS operates provincially, delivering services through six fire centres,
33 zones and two provincial centres in Kamloops and Victoria.
The Wildfire Prevention Officer is responsible for recommending and implementing strategies and
providing advice and guidance to land managers, stakeholders and staff to achieve prevention
objectives within a fire centre.

Qualifications for this role include:
• Degree in a field related to forestry, resource management, or equivalent knowledge, plus
two (2) years recent related experience; or
• Technical diploma in a field related to forestry, resource management, or equivalent
knowledge plus four (4) years recent related experience; or
• Grade 12 plus six (6) years related experience or an equivalent combination of education
and training.
• Demonstrated experience in program or project management.
• Demonstrated experience working on land and resource management issues.
• Registered or eligible to immediately register with the Forest Professionals British Columbia
(FPBC).
Preference statement(s)
• Preference may be given to candidates with senior Fireline Certification (ex. Type 2 or
higher) or Incident Commander 3
