With the World Health Organization declaring novel coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic illness earlier this month, and the recent guidance from the federal and provincial governments, the Fire Prevention Officers’ Association has been taking necessary and reasonable precautions to prepare for possible impacts. The health and safety of our members, is paramount and we will continue to respond appropriately to this rapidly evolving situation.
The FPOABC executive has been discussing the situation at length during the past week, as to the impact to our members, and considering solutions moving forward. With the announcement this morning made by the BC Health Minister, Adrian Dix to ban all gatherings of more than fifty, the FPOABC executive feel it would be in the best interest of our members and the public we serve to postpone our Annual FPOABC Conference and Pre-Conference in Penticton.
The FPOABC is committed to be front and centre in the development of achievable, manageable and realistic training for its members and their respective communities. To that end we are in the process of working with the host hotel in considering alternative dates, and will keep everyone informed of the outcome. We are also working with the hotel to provide a process for accommodation cancellations.

For those currently registered for our conference in May, your registration will be applied to the rescheduled 2020 conference.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Fire Prevention Officers’ Association of BC will not be publishing the FireAway Magazine in 2020.
All cancellations and requests for refunds MUST be submitted in writing. Telephone requests WILL NOT be honored.
- Refund requests postmarked or emailed more than 60 days, - will receive a full refund (less an administrative fee of $35.00)
- Refund requests postmarked or emailed less than 60 days, but prior to 30 days from the start of the Conference - will receive a 75% refund (less an administrative fee of $35.00)
- Refund requests postmarked or emailed less than 30 days, but prior to 14 days from the start of the Conference - will receive a 50% refund (less an administrative fee of $35.00)
- Request for refunds received after this deadline may not be considered
Refunds will be sent within four to six weeks after the Conference has concluded
