Summarized Position Responsibilities:
The Fire Department is currently seeking a dynamic and motivated Fire Inspector to join our Fire Prevention Branch. This
is a versatile and impactful role with responsibilities that adapt to department needs and team member expertise. The
successful candidate will contribute to a range of initiatives, including but not limited to:
- FireSmart program delivery
- Fire inspections and code enforcement
- Pre-incident planning
- Fire investigations
- Acting as an Incident Safety Officer
- Maintaining close working relationships with other City departments and outside agencies

Our Ideal Candidate:
We are seeking a candidate certified to NFPA 1001 (Firefighter I and II) with a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and strong
Microsoft Office skills. The successful applicant must commit to obtaining certifications in Fire Inspector I, BC Fire Code,
Fire Investigation, and Wildfire Mitigation within two years of hire.
Preferred qualifications include a Fire Prevention Officer Certificate (or equivalent), knowledge of applicable codes and
standards, and experience in areas such as public education, emergency response, wildfire management, inspections,
investigations, and program administration.
Valued certifications include Fire Inspector I (NFPA 1031), Fire Investigator (NFPA 1033), FireSmart and wildfire
mitigation credentials, Incident Safety Officer (NFPA 1521), drone operation (Transport Canada), and youth fire
intervention. Familiarity with Fire Department Management (FDM) systems is also considered an asset.
