Community Engagement Specialist
$63,446.31 – $72,142.65 annually

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is a unique area of government tasked with the responsibility of
preventing, managing and suppressing unwanted wildfire on the landscape. Approximately 1600
field workers – comprising technical experts, strategic thinkers and fire operations staff – are
dedicated to undertaking the BCWS mandate in delivering effective wildfire management and
emergency response support to protect life and values at risk, encouraging sustainable, healthy
and resilient ecosystems.

The Community Engagement Specialist (Engagement Specialist) is responsible for planning,
developing, and implementing collaborative outreach and engagement program(s) within the
wildfire management business stream of the BCWS. The position leads program education and
information initiatives and projects within a Fire Centre region. The Engagement Specialist fulfills a
central role in facilitating consultation and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
including federal, provincial, and local governments, First Nations, the forest sector, the public, and
other BCWS Fire Zones.

Qualifications for this role include:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Community Engagement or Natural Resource
Management plus two years *related experience; or
• Diploma in Communications, Community Engagement or Natural Resource Management
plus four years *related experience; or
• Grade 12 plus six years *related experience or an equivalent combination of education and
• Two years demonstrated supervisory experience.
• Two years’ experience developing and applying stakeholder engagement tools and
• Demonstrated experience facilitating groups whose members hold varying interests, in a
natural resource or wildfire management context.
• Demonstrated experience in project management and working within project teams.
*Related experience is defined as communications, community engagement, First Nations
engagement, natural resource, or wildfire management.
