ABCs of Educational Messaging/Building Partnerships for Risk Reduction
Laura King NFPA
Laura is the NFPA’s public-education representative for Canada, helping departments build fire and life-safety programs. Laura was a journalist for more than 30 years and worked as a reporter and editor for newspapers across Canada before moving to NFPA in September 2017. Laura has an honours degree in journalism, political science and public administration from Carleton University, and a certificate in Introduction to Incident Management Systems; she is a certified Road to Mental Readiness instructor, and is NFPA 1035 certified as a fire and life-safety officer.

Lisa Axelson Chilliwack Fire Department/Fire Prevention Officers’ Association of British Columbia
Lisa is 1st Vice President of the Fire Prevention Officers’ Association of British Columbia. With the Chilliwack Fire Department, Lisa is a public educator, fire inspector and fire investigator. Lisa was recently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Megan is the owner of BNL Media Consulting in Kelowna. Megan works with local business owners to get them set up on social media, teaches owners and their employees how to run their social media platforms with strategy and efficiency in mind, as well as helps manage accounts if time is of the essence.

Barb Stack - Senior Program Lead, Langley Division of Family Practice
Working with the community, Physicians and Nurse Practitioners, a large part of Barb’s role is to work collaboratively with the community and health care partners to enhance local patient care. Barb has been involved in leading seniors in Langley for the past 28 years.
Jason Hodge - Acting Captain, Township of Langley Fire Department
In 2005, Jason discovered a program in Kelowna that assisted the first responders to better treat patients with access to vital information during an emergency. This was the inspira- tion for what is now the Medwatch Program. In partnership with the Langley Division of Family Practice, the Medwatch program has been delivered by Jason and Barb Stack since November 2016 with over 2500 packages handed out per year.
